The Prepalyst Rating

A single number for demonstrated technical command, calculated from every problem you solve. Each band maps to the recruiting level whose technical standard it corresponds to. So the score means something outside the platform.

It is a measure of technical depth on this platform. It is not a claim about job titles, years of experience or compensation, and no firm endorses it.

0–249

Prospect

100.0% of active candidates

Getting oriented. Some exposure to the statements, but not yet able to hold a technical conversation unaided.

Recruiting benchmark: Pre-recruiting — first or second year undergraduate exploring finance.

250–499

Analyst Candidate

No candidates yet

Can walk the three statements and explain enterprise value. Would survive a screening call but not a full technical round.

Recruiting benchmark: Preparing for summer analyst first rounds.

500–799

First-Year Analyst

No candidates yet

Solid across accounting and valuation. Can build a DCF and explain WACC construction under questioning.

Recruiting benchmark: Interview-ready for summer analyst and most full-time analyst roles.

800–1,049

Analyst

No candidates yet

Fluent across valuation, M&A and LBO mechanics. Handles follow-ups and multi-step calculations without a model in front of them.

Recruiting benchmark: Competitive for full-time analyst offers at bulge bracket and elite boutique firms.

1,050–1,249

Associate

No candidates yet

Moves from mechanics to judgement. Can defend an assumption set, size a capital structure and reason about deal outcomes.

Recruiting benchmark: Prepared for private equity on-cycle and post-MBA associate interviews.

1,250–1,399

Vice President

No candidates yet

Comfortable at the level where the question is no longer 'how' but 'should we'. Frames trade-offs and identifies what breaks a thesis.

Recruiting benchmark: Command of the material expected of a VP running a live process.

1,400–1,599

Senior Vice President

No candidates yet

Complete technical coverage plus the judgement to challenge a model rather than build one. Consistent across every competency area.

Recruiting benchmark: Technical depth associated with senior deal team leadership.

1,600+

Managing Director

No candidates yet

Near-complete mastery of the library at a high standard, sustained over months. Rare by design.

Recruiting benchmark: The top of the platform. Fewer than one percent of active candidates.

How the rating is calculated

Published in full, because a score you cannot audit is not a credential.

Problems solved

Weighted by difficulty. Easy 4, Medium 7, Hard 12 points. And scaled by answer quality. A problem counts as solved at 70/100 or above.

Uncapped

Accuracy

Mean best score across every problem attempted. Applies once you have attempted at least five.

up to 100

Consistency

Your longest unbroken run of practice days. Recruiting preparation is a season, not a night.

up to 90

Active days

Days on which you submitted at least one answer.

up to 60

Breadth

Competency areas in which you have solved at least three problems. Depth in one area cannot substitute for coverage.

up to 80

Certifications

Timed assessments passed. Foundation 50, Professional 75, Advanced 110 points. Exam conditions are the only evidence of performance under pressure, so they carry real weight.
